The Doctrine of Inherited Sin

How does the sin of Adam affect us? Scripture teaches that we inherit sin from Adam in two ways: 1. Inherited Guilt: We Are Counted Guilty Because of Adam's Sin When Adam sinned, God considered all who descend from Adam as sinners. This concept, often referred to as "original sin," means that all members of the human race were represented by Adam during the time of testing in the Garden of Eden. As our representative, Adam's sin resulted in God counting us guilty alongside him. The key passages illustrating this point are found in Romans 5:12-21 : Romans 5:12 - "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned." Romans 5:13-14 - "For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that...

Penalty of Sin

Consequences or Penalties of Sin 1. Separation from God Sin creates a barrier between humanity and God, breaking the closeness and intimacy that God desires with His people. When we sin, we distance ourselves from His presence, making it difficult to experience His guidance and blessings. Isaiah 59:2 – "But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear." 2. Spiritual Death Spiritual death is the result of being cut off from God's life-giving presence. Although one may be physically alive, sin separates the soul from God's eternal life, leading to spiritual emptiness and ultimately eternal separation if not repented. Romans 6:23   –  "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." 3. Physical Death Sin brought physical death into the world as a result of Adam and Eve’s disobedience. Every human now faces the reality of death, returni...

8 Types of Sin in The Bible

The Bible categorizes sin in various ways, and different types of sin are highlighted throughout Scripture. Below are some main types of sin, along with explanations and examples.  1. Original Sin Definition: This is the sinful nature inherited from Adam and Eve due to their disobedience in the Garden of Eden. It is the root cause of all other sins. Example: Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit. Romans 5:12 – "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned." Psalm 51:5 – "Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me." 2. Personal Sin Definition: These are individual acts of wrongdoing that each person commits through thoughts, words, or deeds. Example: Lying, stealing, adultery (King David’s sin with Bathsheba). 1 John 1:8-9 – "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful an...

Definition of Sin

What is Sin According to the Bible? Sin is generally understood as disobedience to God. The word sin originates from the Greek word hamartia , which means "to miss the mark" or "to fall short." This concept is evident in Romans 3:23 , which states, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (KJV) . Sin, in its simplest form, is anything that falls short of God's perfect standard, whether it is an outward action, an inward thought, or an attitude of the heart. In the Bible, sin is seen as the rebellion of human beings against God’s authority. The first sin occurred in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating the forbidden fruit ( Genesis 3:6 ). Since that moment, sin has entered the world, and every human being has been affected by it. Romans 5:12 affirms, "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned" (KJV) . Other Bible ...
